2008: The Year to Take Back Rock

1. Guns N' Roses
By now, I'm sure you've might have heard of Chinese Democracy. It's an album that is thirteen years in the making.
I've heard demos of the songs over the past year, and not much has caught my, but I just came across the supposed final version of the titular song. I really suggest checking it out.
It's not the melodic and lyrically brilliant GN'R that I love, but it just might be the best thing in the past few years.
Chinese Democracy
Cather In The Rye is also great. While Chinese Democracy is a great hard rock song, Catcher In The Rye is more like their old melodic stuff. Choose for yourself. Brian May of Queen played guitar for Cather In The Rye.
Cather In The Rye
Some other songs like IRS are cool, too.
Considering that Axl started the new band from scratch, this sounds a whole fucking lot like Guns N' Roses.
Okay, Axl, now release the motherfucking album.
2. Queen
Queen + Paul Rodgers is a band currently making an album. It consists of Brian May, Fred Taylor, Paul Rodgers, and some bassist that doesn't really matter. I hope Queen can pull it out.
The currently untitled album should come out this year.
Oh, they've already released a single.
Skip ahead to 2:15 if you want to get rocking right away.
Say It's Not True
I like it, really. I hope that's not just because I want to like it.
3. Metallica
I have a love/hate relationship with Metallica. I love the song One no matter what, but I almost hate that I love some of their heavier stuff because it just isn't me. Even though this will be the earliest release of the three albums so far, there are no demos available, probably due to the fact that Lars Ulrich is a fucking dick when it comes to the internet.
How about this quote from Matt Sorum, former Guns N' Roses drummer and current Velvet Revolver drummer, on Metallica's currently untitled ninth studio album.
Quote:| Lars (Ulrich) is a good friend of mine. He played me the demos from San Francisco, and I turned and looked at him and I said, 'Master that shit and put it out.' It's ridiculous. The demos were sick. Eight-minute songs, all these tempo changes, crazy fast. It's like, 'Dude, don't get slower when you get older, but don't get faster!? How are you gonna play this live?' And then me and Lars were out partying all night, and he had to go in the studio the next day and do this stupid like nine- or ten-minute song, and I was laughing at him — because he played me the demo of it, and it was [sings really fast drum part], so fast. I called him, and said, 'Dude, how are you feeling?' He was like, 'Dude, I'm hurting.' They're cutting everything to tape, no fuckin' ProTools — live, no clicks. Bitchin'. I dig it. I'm really excited for them. |

PATD removed their exclamation mark in the past week. Supposedly so that they would be taken more seriously.
>_>
Fucking douches.
But seriously, a lot of what you posted is good stuff, but is just stuff that I don't happen to enjoy as much as other people do.
If a band is ever said to "sound indie" or is classified as "pop rock" more than "punk rock", I immediately register that in my head as something to avoid, as the music is often enjoyable, but is just not as deep as the stuff that I usually listen to.
Not emotionally deep, mind you, I'm referring to the fact that I usually listen to music with more intricate technical aspects than most people are used to. As far as big picture music goes, that's a damn fine list you have there.
